2027 Budget Motels Australian National Blackball Championships
THIS IS YOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
There are tournaments, there are competitions, and then there are the Australian National Championships.
In February 2027, the nation’s best blackball players will descend on Ulverstone, Tasmania, as the 2027 Budget Motels Australian National Blackball Championships take centre stage from 19–27 February. For nine days, the tables become the battleground. Friendships are forged, rivalries renewed and champions are made.
This is where players come to prove themselves.
This is where teams come together. This is where Australian blackball belongs.
THE ROAD TO ULVERSTONE
Every player arrives with a story. Some have spent years chasing their first national title. Others return determined to defend their place at the top. For new players, this is the opportunity to step onto the national stage and discover what they can achieve.
But once the first balls are broken, everyone starts from the same place - One table, One frame, One opportunity.
The pressure builds with every match as players fight their way through the Championships in pursuit of the ultimate prize — becoming an Australian National Champion.
MORE THAN A CHAMPIONSHIP
The Nationals are about far more than what happens around the table. They are a gathering of Australia's blackball community.
Players travel thousands of kilometres to compete alongside teammates, meet opponents they may only know by reputation and reconnect with friends made through the sport.
Families travel together. Clubs come together. New friendships begin.
For many, the National Championships become one of the highlights of their sporting year. It is this sense of community that makes blackball different.
TASMANIA WELCOMES AUSTRALIA
The Ulverstone Sports and Leisure Centre will become the home of Australian blackball for the 2027 Championships.
Located on Tasmania's north-west coast, Ulverstone provides an ideal setting for players and supporters to experience everything the region has to offer while being part of one of Australia's fastest-growing cue sports.
For the local community, hosting the Nationals provides an opportunity to showcase Ulverstone and the surrounding region to visitors from across Australia.
For the players, it is the chance to compete for national glory in one of Australia's most spectacular destinations.
EVERY PLAYER HAS A PLACE
Blackball is a sport where skill, determination and strategy matter more than anything else. It doesn't matter where you come from. It doesn't matter how long you have been playing. It doesn't matter whether you are stepping onto the national stage for the first time or returning as a seasoned champion. There is a place for everyone.
BAPA is committed to developing a sport that is accessible, inclusive and welcoming, providing opportunities for people of different ages, genders and abilities to participate and compete. That is the strength of our game.
THE NEXT GENERATION
The future of Australian blackball is already sitting around our tables.
The National Championships provide an important platform for developing young players, identifying emerging talent and giving the next generation the experience required to compete at the highest level.
Every champion starts somewhere, Every great player was once the new player, and every generation has the opportunity to leave its mark.
THE CHASE FOR GOLD
Across the Championships, players and teams will battle through intense competition in the pursuit of national honours.
There will be moments of brilliance, there will be heartbreak, there will be comebacks, there will be frames that are remembered long after the tournament has finished and ultimately, there will be champions.
The names that emerge from Ulverstone in 2027 will become part of the history of Australian blackball.
BUILT BY THE BLACKBALL COMMUNITY
An event of this scale doesn't happen without an enormous team behind it.
BAPA extends its appreciation to the players, clubs, referees, officials, volunteers, sponsors, supporters and families who make the National Championships possible.
Our major partner, Budget Motels, continues to play an important role in supporting Australian blackball and helping bring this national event to communities across Australia.
Every sponsor, every volunteer and every supporter contributes to the bigger picture — building a stronger future for the sport.
THE FUTURE IS BLACKBALL
Australian blackball is growing.
More players are discovering the game. More clubs are getting involved. More young people are picking up a cue. And more Australians are beginning to recognise the skill, discipline and competitive nature of our sport.
The National Championships are the centrepiece of that growth. They give players something to chase. They give clubs something to build towards, and they give the next generation something to dream about.
