Australian National Championships 2023

Welcome to the home page for the inaugural 2023 Blackball Australian National Championships. The new format Blackball Championships promises to pit the very best from each of the states of Australia against each other in a 4 player team format, singles, double and mixed doubles. There are five categories, Mens, Women, Seniors, Masters and LDPD.

So if you want to test yourself against the very best in eight ball, here are all the details you need to know.

Easy 4 step process.

• Get a team of 4 players together all from the same state.

• Players must all fit the criteria of Mens, Seniors , Masters or Ladies. Seniors and masters category teams can be mixed.

• Fill in the entry form which can be found linked below, along with all the details of the nationals.

• Pay the $200 deposit to secure your place.

Playing Categories

  • Open

  • Mens

  • Masters (Aged over 50)

  • Learning Difficulty / Physical Disability (LD/PD)

Events

  • Teams - Men / Women / Senior / Master ; 4 players per team, all players from the same state.

  • Singles - in all categories

  • Scotch Doubles - in all categories except LD/PD and open

  • Mixed Doubles 

  • Speed Pool

Teams Format

For Open, Ladies, Seniors and Masters categories

  • Team events will be group of 8 team round robin in the first stage.

  • Each match played on one table

  • Open, Seniors and Masters groups will be 4 rounds of 4 frames, 16 frame match in total.

  • Ladies will be 3 rounds of 4 frames, 12 frame match total.

  • Teams score 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.

  • Top 4 from each group will go through to gold finals knock out round.

  • Bottom 4 from each group will go through to silver finals knock out round.

  • Ladies knock out rounds will be 4 rounds of 4 frames, 16 frame match total.

  • Blackball shootout if teams are tied at 8-8 in knock out round.

  • Prize money for both Gold and Silver finals to be confirmed.

  • International teams to be selected from results in the teams categories.

Singles / Doubles Format

  • Open / Men / Senior / Master Singles
    Prelim / 1st Round / 2nd Round / Last 16 - Best of 11
    Quarter Finals - Best of 15
    Semi Finals - Best of 17
    Finals - Best of 19
     

  • Ladies / LD/PD Singles
    Prelim / 1st Round / 2nd Round / Last 16 / Quarters - Best of 9
    Semi Finals - Best of 13
    Finals - Best of 15
     

  • All doubles
    Prelim / 1st Round - Best of 7
    2nd Round / Last 16 / Quarters / Semis - Best of 9
    Finals - Best of 11

LD/PD Format

LD/PD's will play a round robin format, the top 4 will then play off in the semi finals and final to determine the winner. Each group round robin match will be the best of 9 frames with the semi finals being the best of 11 and the finals best of 13 frames. 

Along with the group round robin matches the LD/PD's will also have their own singles knockout competition with the format the same as above. If there is enough players a small doubles competition will also be run. Players can partner up with players from other states for this if there is not another player from your state. Players can also take part in the teams, singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Draws/schedules
The draws and schedules are usually available online around 10 days before the event. 


The BAPA Nationals are 8 full days of action – you should be prepared for early starts and late finishes.
 

Prize funds
We aim to pay out 7 days from the completion of the event. All payments are by Bank transfer so it is down to you to ensure we have your details in order to pay you.

Prize money for single and doubles events will be determined closer to the tournament when full entry numbers are known.

​

 

Dress Code

All players must wear a collared shirt, black trousers (no jeans, chinos or adventure wear) and black leather shoes.

​

Standards of behaviour
The BAPA Australia National Championships is the premier event for pool, and our events are held in the highest regard. We expect all players to conduct themselves appropriately at all times, especially during matches. Bad behaviour will be severely dealt with, through either a fine, or suspension from the event.

 

Social Media
We do ask players to share all posts that we put out on the BAPA Facebook page. It only takes a second and can provide huge benefits to BAPA in terms of increased awareness, higher profile etc, which makes us more attractive to potential sponsors.
